Restorative justice

Victims' Voice seeks to address the revictimization of victims in the criminal justice system, to create understanding about victims among practitioners who work within the system and to give emotional and informational support directly to victims through victim-centered programs.

Victims' Voice does this by offering training programs about understanding victims of crime and by participating in advocating for victims' rights.

Advocacy

To promote justice policies that recognize crime as harm against persons, and that suggest responses that are victim sensitive, promote offender responsibility to make things as right as possible and engender community participation and support.

Connection

To promote interaction and dialogue between programs and institutions with similar restorative justice goals and processes, to provide a place for mutual challenge, support and encouragement.

Education

To promote awareness within the Mennonite constituency and in the general public of restorative justice values, principles and practices and encourage application of them in specific contexts.

Research

To gather pertinent emerging information regarding all aspects of RJ in a national sense and making any useful information available to the relevant persons and programs.

MCC's Aboriginal Neighbours program works to repair the broken relationships between broader Canadian society and Aboriginal peoples. MCC pursues this goal as partners in God's work of reconciliation in three ways:

Dialogue

Activities that promote respectful understanding across cultures. This includes the production of educational materials, learning exchanges, and longer–term placements of non-Aboriginal people in First Nation settings.

Advocacy

MCC attempts to stand with Aboriginal peoples who are marginalized by governments or corporations. It does so through direct advocacy when invited and by participation in the interchurch KAIROS: Aboriginal Rights Committee.

Community Building Support

MCC assists some Aboriginal communities in the preparation of community economic development plans and places volunteers in community development projects. MCC is also a partner in the administration of the Jubilee Fund which issues grants for education and other projects.
